Unfortunately, many of us are exposed to traumatic events in our lifetime. War, terrorism, neighborhood or school violence, domestic violence, rape, child abuse, car accidents, robbery, or anything unexpected that creates a traumatic response can impact us deeply. Trauma can affect:
- Mood (irritability, depression, anxiety, numbness)
- Work, school, and/or social activities
- Impulse control
Therapy can help process the traumatic event(s) and explore the resulting consequences to resolve the crisis. The initial focus is on personal safety and security and expands to increase the individual’s feelings of control and return to optimal functioning.
