Michael Barfield, LCSW
Therapist, Ed.D, MSW, LSW
Licensed therapist helping individuals and families build resilience across the lifespan.
Introduction
You want to feel better. Not just manage — actually better. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, or something you’ve been carrying so long it just feels like “the way things are,” real change is possible.
I’ve spent over four decades believing that — and helping people prove it.
My Approach
Sessions with me are collaborative and person-centered. We’ll work together to figure out exactly what’s standing between you and the life you want, using approaches like CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care to build real skills and understanding along the way. I don’t believe my role is to direct your journey; it’s to walk alongside you as you build your own confidence and stability.
I’ve spent over four decades in this field, much of it focused on children, adolescents, and families, along with individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. I believe we can’t fully understand a person without understanding the relationships and systems around them — which is why family work has always felt especially meaningful to me.
After a first session, I want you to feel heard, respected, and hopeful that change is possible. I believe most people want to become the best version of themselves — even when they feel stuck or discouraged, they’re often carrying more strength and resilience than they realize.
I think of this work like strengthening roots. Just as a tree needs a strong root system to weather a storm, people need a solid foundation of self-awareness, support, and resilience to face life’s challenges. The storms may not go away, but with stronger roots, you can meet them with more confidence and hope.
If you’re ready to start building something stronger, let’s talk.
